Well, howdy! I'm here in Brooklyn, to work and BE here now. There are so many characters, beautiful hidden places, and experiences here to learn from. Everytime one travels, I truly think they are traveling within, too! I can feel the changes. I can feel the life pulsing through me!
I'm staying east of beautiful Prospect Park in Brooklyn. It's an amazing park with lots going on, but it's still peaceful. Zuzu the cat keeps me company during the day, and the two bright windows by my desk allow the best kind of light to pour in.
I've been reworking my portfolio and a new dummy book. This time around, I've asked pals for their eyes on it. Feeback always pulls me in deeper and teaches me more about the craft. And to hear everyone's experience reading the manuscript is fasinating. This is where you get the juicy stuff, where you can see if your message is not working, or if it is, in fact, pulling something special out of the reader. Yes yes yes! I love it!
As I work in this new space, I'm trying to pepper my walls with some art. Little reminders as I work on my novel and dummy books. I got here because I dreamed of being here and worked out a path to make it happen- a path supported in so many ways by those who love me. It doesn't feel real. I am so happy, but also so weirded out. Is this real?!?! I mean, come on!
I chose about 10 pieces and layed them out in a simple portrait format. I'll be mailing these, and dropping of some others in Manhattan. The dummy book will also be sent out by snail mail, and kept with me to show anyone I can book a meeting with.
Beyond this, I'll working on a couple cool illustration projects that are on-going. Here's sketch from the tarot deck. It's still in the beginning stages so I won't talk about it too much, but I can tell you- what a transformative project! As I'm drawing these cards, I am witnessing a deepening into my own experience. Every card has so much wisdom! And the world my partner and I are creating is really coming to life in an exciting way.
Keep on keepin' on, friends! What are you working on? What can you go back into and extract more juiciness? What's rocking your world?
Lots of love, Annie
