Another Drawing

Hello and Happy Spring!

I was working on a new image for my company a couple days ago, and I thought I’d film it. It’s kind of fun seeing it come together. I think the initial drawing has so much life in it and raw emotion. The modern painters and poets knew this. Now, I AM a fan of editing, but I do think you need to keep the spirit strong, and stay away from smothering, chopping, and reworking. I’m always trying to find this balance.

….

It’s Spring and the flowers are bursting here in my little town. The Poppies show their faces along the rail trail, and the irises are starting to pop. I LOVE this time of year, here. The days aren’t too warm and everywhere you look is colorful and lush. Truly a sigh to see.

My local coffee shop has some seasonal drinks that are chef’s kiss SO GOOD. Lemon merengue coffee, orange blossom latte, and vanilla matcha creme. I had to draw a little picture of them for you:

drawing of orange blossom latte, lemon latte, and matcha green tea latte.

With all of these seasonal flavors, I tried my hand at baking a gluten free, dairy free raspberry cake using this recipe: https://cakedbykatie.com/2023/02/gluten-free-raspberry-cake-dairy-free/ Ok, I FAILED you guys. I read the recipe and tried to get all the right ingredients but I just missed the mark on a couple things and it was horrible. I’m talking clumpy frosting, fallen centers…the raspberry puree turned out good, though.

I’ve been working diligently (though slowly) on a new book. It’s about Mr. B. Tull, and I hope hope hope the book is picked up. We’re working through some edits before we send it out to publishers, so here’s one little drawing I can share.

We have also sold out of The Spacious Tarot which is crazy! What a wonderful jounrney it’s been. I can’t wait to work on the new deck, though. Carrie and I love having the deck out there for purchase, but we need some time—and spaciousness to just create. So more info on that as it comes together. In time, in time.

I wish you all a happy Spring. I’ll be back with more update and drawings soon. Until then, what are you working on? I’d love to know!

August Newsletter

Hello all- looooong time no write.

I had a baby, and she's almost 4 months old- it takes time to get back into the swing of things but we're swinging now. This is Abigail.

Let's see, what has happened... We had a very hot Summer with lots of fun play outside. My auntie got the kids a water table and I bought a slide after my Dad helped us "install" some lawn, bless his soul. It was a family effort and the backyard was a haven this Summer. I'm so grateful! There's not much to do in this small town when it's 100 degrees out, so the best thing to do is drench yourself and sit in the shade. Luckily Mom and kids like this a lot!

I also did some painting here and there when I was on maternity leave. I’m into flowers right now. I painted a sister piece to my other still life, and yet another one. Now I’m working on a master copy of Monet’s meadow for the house. My goal is to slowly cover my walls in paintings of beautiful nature.

I started back at work, where I’m making art for Fly.io. It’s great to be back, as I love my coworkers so. I' don’t have much time yet for working on some children’s book projects (I have a few in the works), but I’ll get to it as my routine allows for it.

I remember taking a photo several years back of a pink sunhat, that was run over on the road. It was totally flat and I stopped to photograph it. Although it wasn’t anything special, to this day I still really dig the photo. Last week I went for a morning walk and saw these two white gloves on the sidewalk, also abandoned or lost.

Did the white rabbit peel them off his fingers so he could devour some ripe blackberries from our neighbor’s yard? Did he forget them when he scampered away at the clamor of their car starting? We’ll NEVER KNOW.

….

I hope you all are having a great end to your Summer. Eat the last of the sun-warmed fruits, savor the warm evenings, and see you soon,

Annie

Energy of Creation

The last weeks I had some HUGE dips in energy and a hormonal wave that took my by surprise. Hello, pregnancy! After talking to some herbalists and my midwives, they suggested some supplements to help me out and they worked almost instantly. Now I’m back to feeling pretty good, but I do need that afternoon nap here and there!

While experiencing my energy drain out of me last week, I made this painting about pregnancy.

It feels like a universe is forming inside of me- something I don’t yet understand. I’m more in touch with my female body than I have EVER experienced before but I still have no idea what’s going on.

Flowers look different to me and fruit carries a new meaning. I think of the Empress card different (in the traditional RWS deck and the Spacious Tarot). I also sense that my energy is poured simultaneously into my womb, and also out to the cosmic spiritual energy around me. I really do feel like a vessel- slightly out of control but eager to be here. I’m here to keep up with it all and find all the ways to nourish this little baby as it forms and gets ready to be a part of this world.

So, you’re probably realizing that I’m having a major spiritual experience with this pregnancy, right? Um…just a little. ;) I’m constantly blown away. My husband recently showed me images of the universe from the new Webb telescope. Not only is the telescope awe inspiring, but the images that it’s picking up from space is moving my soul deeply. It’s sublime! All those galaxies! How small we are, yet how complex. How vast the universe is (as we see it) and how complex. My mind cannot do anything with this information except for feel so much love and awe. Same with this child that’s growing every day in my womb, without me having ever done it before. My body KNOWS how to do it. The universe KNOWS.

I’ll end my awkward ode to Creation there. Lots of love,

Annie
